Each band member is an accomplished and well-rounded musician in their own right, bringing a diverse range of musical experience to give The Moods an extraordinarily broad range of musical styles.
Shane started playing guitar in his senior high school years on the banks of the Tweed River, northern NSW. Leaving his surfboard behind, he moved to Sydney in the late ’80s and graduated from the Conservatorium of Music in 1990, then travelled the world performing on cruise ships. On his return to Sydney, Shane freelanced with local bands and re-united with Joern Harris to form The Moods. Interests are music teaching, cycling, yoga, swimming and a son that keeps him busy.
Matt grew up in New Zealand and began playing bass in 1984 at his high school. His first teacher was a jazz musician and early on Matt developed a love of the jazz genre. Matt began gigging in the early 90s and in 1994 completed an Associate Diploma in Jazz Studies with High Distinction at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Matt plays both upright bass and electric bass and has been in demand for both live gigs and recording sessions for over 20 years. He has been a member of The Moods since 2010.
Joern began playing the accordion at age 9 before moving to the saxophone and clarinet.
He studied classical clarinet at the NSW State Conservatorium of Music and played professionally in this field before returning to the sax and a great love – jazz.
He is a founding member of The Moods and enjoys music and his dog Bobby Black.
